Web Enabled Glucometer

The web enabled glucometer is an embedded web server that has been specifically designed to display glucometer readings on a web page from the Accucheck glucometer. The Accucheck glucometer is the standard glucometer used at the Family Medicine department of the ECU School of Medicine, but the embedded system can be used with any data capable glucometer.

The system has three parts to it. The first was to host a webserver for medical practioners and data gathering software to pull the readings from using any web browser. The second was it's ability to automatically post data to a centralized server after taking the reading. Finally the system is capable of printing a record of the glucose reading.

The system was designed to be used as a stationary appliance in a hospital station, a mobile wireless device going room to room in a hospital, or a device to work out of the home. For the home scenario, the device is capable of working over broadband ethernet or using a dial up modem connection. A home PC is not required for this system, as it works independent.

A continuation of this project is the palmOS to glucometer system.
